Building a Unit

  1. My biggest takeaway from building this unit was how our standards can really inform us of what we should be doing for our lesson planning. This is also the connection I've made during this phase of our learning. For example, we can create our learning objectives based off the standards, but we are also using the standards to inform us of the levels of cognitive demands that we should be striving for in our classrooms.
  2. Next time I build a unit, I would like to spend more time building my assessment and evaluating the scoring guide of that assessment. I have seen some really good examples of summative assessments from my CT, and I know that the reason for that is because my CT has spent a lot of time and effort making sure that each assessment question is evaluating students on a specific standard. In regards to the scoring, I would like to think more about how I can relate scoring back to standards based proficiency scale.
  3. For students doing this in this future, I suggest you really take this time getting comfortable with using standards. I say this because you will be finding standards, dissecting them, and then creating an assessment based off of them. I think this is a great opportunity for y'all to get more practice on the process of including standards in our lesson planning.
