- One way I have differentiated for student learning would be by looking at reviews and extra practice as more individual for each student. For example, some student love and want additives to in-class work. Some students like to do math every day and like to review what is being and preview what is ahead. These assignments are "review-preview" assignments. Other students need to break down what they did in class and reflect further on the learning they did when they are at home. These assignments are called "break it downs". Other students need to "subtract" all the heavy details and summarize what they know, what they still want to know, and what they need to work on. These assignments generally are constructed from formative assessments. Other students want to create their own assignments or videos for review, share their notes, or expand on what they are already doing. Each of these "assignments" or types of extending learning are kind of like the four main operations of math, which is why I drew the picture I did. Students are encouraged to go outside of their comfort zone each week, but are also encouraged to draw on their strengths when they need to. Most students choose the review-preview assignments, but others like to reflect more. Very few students choose to extend or summarize, but they are options!
