What do I need to think about connected to supporting my current students?
I am currently thinking a lot about how to facilitate at-home lab projects for the high schoolers this coming quarter. I feel as though we are over-using PHET in the pandemic; it's a great resource, but seriously... the whole of online science class cannot be PHET.
Obviously, im exaggerating... but it is at least every other day that we give them a PHET simulation to play with; I want the students to do more hands on things. One of the joys of the science classroom is that you get to electrocute things, melt things, and start small fires. I really want to restore some of that, for them, in a safe way that doesn't make the kids at home feel left out.
I am looking for more at-home labs, and also I have taken the opportunity to show them more videos of things we can't normally do in a classroom, like throwing sodium into a lake or burning through an engine block with thermite.
