I think that feedback is crucial for the student-teacher relationship, but not so much as a pipeline for information for improved pedagogy as in the other direction for reinforcing students' self worth. I watch for opportunities to give positive feedback to students. I have appreciated being told on more than one occasion that my class is the reason why a student is appreciating the study of science again after not liking it for years. I believe part of this is related to their knowing that I am interested in helping them learn and helping them appreciate, but not really in judging them or in doing more evaluation for grading than is required by the norms of the institution.
