Honestly, I think this lesson (I went with the science one) is pretty solid, overall... One thing I wonder is: what grade level was this intended for? I've looked over the document more than once, and I cannot find it. I would be nervous about giving something this rigorous to a middle schooler without building up to it a little, first.
The one thing I would do differently, is work towards the Hazard magazine in steps. The lessons says they will make it online with an app I am not familiar with. I think asking that all at once is a lot; maybe not a big deal for highschoolers used to higher levels of rigor, but certainly for anyone younger. I would divide this portion up into a couple of smaller steps, myself. (Like I said, though, I have never used this app, so maybe I'm overthinking it)
I would do this by giving the students one or two small assignments, before assigning the Hazard Magazine, where they are asked to write about some assigned topics that I would later ask them to include in the magazine. The topics could be chosen from the 'Subunit Guiding Questions', and when we got to the final assessments they would include these in their magazines and expand on them, there.
