Differentiation

This is a poor drawing of one train track diverging into multiple tracks, and ultimately merging into a singular track once again. This is how I think of effective differentiation. In my first and second internship, we used an embedded honors system in which we designed multiple differentiated tracks that ultimately converged into the fundamental learning we expected of all students. Some students learned best when their train traveled more slowly, carefully, and intentionally. Other students learned better when their train traveled at full speed with dozens of attached carts. Ultimately, though, all students reached the same destination.
